Typically, the news media present comparisons of median household income between Whites and Blacks, or perhaps Whites and Hispanics. In general, racial comparisons dominate media coverage. While important, there are of course more than two groups that comprise our nation’s population. In fact, approximately 30% of the population is neither Black nor White.
This chart, created in 2020, includes groups generally ignored by the news media. Indian-Americans have the highest media household income of all groups at $100,500, followed by Filipino-Americans $88,300, and Taiwanese-Americans $82,500. Notice the average American household brings in $56,200. The higher income ranges are likely the result of a greater share of a group attaining a bachelor degree of more.
